The Living Room

Remember the 70s living room.

The chair in the corner stayed along with the classy shag carpeting. The walls are a cream color they look brighter than they really are. The way this room is set up though makes it hard to move your furniture around. There are too many doorways that could be blocked. There are five.

I did not like where the TV was because it drew too much attention to the bedrooms.

I moved the TV to the corner and put a bookshelf in the middle. Not a complete solution but better than before.

That doorway goes out to the porch which is Mac's playroom now. Before they put junk out there, and the curtains were panels. It's kind of funny that is the only window in the room and it goes out to the porch. It does come in handy when we nap on the couch because if you shut the bedroom and office doors it becomes rather dark. The blankets that are crocheted (I think) are both wedding presents. The pink and white quilt is a from my godmother when Maclayne was born.

Menu Plan Monday

I have skipped a few weeks or maybe it was only one again. I have fallen off the wagon and for my sake (and my familys) I am trying to get back on. Help me Rhonda! : ) I will be going here to get inspiration for the upcoming weeks. Nothing is sounding particularly good. Which is odd because I heart food.
Monday-Tenderloin tips over egg noodles and sweet corn
Tuesday-Smoked sausage, baked beans, and green beans
Wednesday-Hamburgers or Pancakes and sausages
Thursday-Pork chops and mashed potatoes--these have been on plan a few times but not made
Friday-Frozen pizza--I watch two kids this night and this is what they like plus it is easy or I will make a homemade one which is even yummier!
Saturday-Sloppy joes, tator tots, and green beans

Poke Cake

This is so simple and yummy to have when the weather warms up. Go check out the recipe swap for other recipes. My directions are pretty bare. You will need.

1 pkg cake mix (yellow, white, strawberry, etc)

Bake cake in a 9x13 according to directions. A few minutes before the cake is done, take a package of gelatin and make to directions on box. Be mindful to match up your cake flavor with your gelatin flavor. Red flavor or orange gelatin work best in my opinion. While cake is warm, take a fork and poke holes all over cake about a half inch apart. Pour gelatin over cake. Refrigerate overnight. Top with whipped topping and enjoy!

Old Living Room

Hello outdated living room. It has been just over a year that you had your paint job. I am sorry to say but we do not miss you. Not one bit. Like the rest of the house this is an odd floorplan. That doorway is Maclayne's bedroom. Except picture pink walls, cute rug, and a single girly bed. Sorry but you will have to wait a day or two to see it. For now you must all be haunted by the shag carpeting, panelling, and uncomfortable couch. Enjoy!

Ahh the other side of the room. Look two more doorways! Too bad there is not a wide angle because there is a door on the right wall between the humidifier and chair which goes out to the porch. The porch is actually now a functional play/family room not just a space for junk. Seeing these pictures makes me slightly nauseous. Oh yes, and there is the doorway/opening to the dining room on the left wall. Those other two doorways are bedrooms. We use the left one for an office *HI* it's where I am now and the other is master bedroom. Not really mastery but it's where we sleep.

Here are the other updates if you missed them:

Why I Love Spring

And they are off! Ten days ago the cows were allowed out into the pasture. I think they were slightly excited about getting out into some dirt and green, green grass.

The heifers in the lot next to the pasture even were excited for the cows as they ran along the fenceline. See the red and white heifer. That is her mama two pictures down kicking her heels up and she is a big girl.

Black and white cows.

Red and White cows.

The two oldest cows in the herd. Pearl is on the left and Amber on the right. They are both due to calve in June.

Then there are cows who can't wait to get down and have some fun. Hi, my name is Papya. Pearl is my cousin but she is far to old to do this number. I call it "making sure this is the real deal and not plastic."

Yep, it will do. Show is over now. You with the camera, don't you have some dishes to do?

Menu Plan Monday

I am back from my break on meal planning or atleast blogging about it. This way I am more accountable and Kurt likes to tease me that this or that wasn't on the plan. Although it may say we are going to have a particular day sometimes it does not work and we have it another day. Which I am sure how it goes for many, unless your life is the same each day, etc. Not here. Our life changes as the weather does. Since this week is going to be exceptionally busy-rummage sale, three appointments, one meeting, and regular chores (maybe planting more corn), I already made up to pasta meals while I made breakfast.
Monday-Lasagna, salad, garlic bread
Tuesday-Leftovers-Kurt has his meeting
Wednesday-Spaghetti casserole (I made that and the lasagna up this morning and they are baby size)
Thursday-Pork loin chops, baked potatoes, green beans
Friday-Homemade sausage pizza
Saturday-Maybe going out to eat. We did not do anything special for Mother's Day because it was Kurt's weekend to work so we work doubly hard then.

Special K Bars

Happy 100th post. Wow, is there a club I am in now? No? Darn it! Well where I live woman around here and the grocery store deli department make these things called K-Bars. Except they make them with rice krispies. I used to eat these for breakfast when my mom drove us to school and we would stop at the gas station. Healthy I know. I just thought of them as peanut butter rice krispy bars with chocolate on top. Who cares what they are called right? Obviously my recipe makes sense why they are called K-bars so wouldn't their's be R-Bars? I will stop. Here is the recipe...I know there is another name for these maybe something like clark bar? Or am I crazy???

Special K Bars

1 c. sugar
1 c. corn syrup
1 c. peanut butter
1/2 pkg chocolate chips (6oz.)
1/2 pkg butterscotch chips (6oz.)
7 c. Special K cereal

Heat and stir sugar and corn syrup in a pan. When it comes to a boil, add peanut butter and stir until creamy. Pour mixture over the cereal and coat evenly with mixture. Press into a prepared 9x13 pan. Melt chocolate and butterscotch chips together and spread on for frosting.

Enjoy! I am planning on making these for Kurt this weekend along with his favorite cookies. If anyone has a recipe for taco seasoning, I am looking for one that I can make up and have on hand. I have not checked yet but I am sure there are a few out there. Go check out the Recipe Swap for more yummy recipes!

Remember Me

So I have been kind of busy, kind of lazy, and just kind of tired out. It is hard to get through a day without taking a nap. Before I married Kurt, I was not a fan of naps and now I can not nap long enough. I think going to bed at midnight and getting up at 5:30 is beginning to wear on me...yawn. Tomorrow I must go to some rummage sales. I must! It is guilt free shopping and you never know what you will find. I especially like finding girl's clothes in my daughter's size. Score! I kind of have a few other things to do tomorrow besides rummage sales. I have to get ready for my own which is next Friday and Saturday. What I need to do is start labeling items with there price and making sure I have everything I want to offer for sale. Yawn...sorry. I need to go sweep out my garage because the big garage is full of pallets with seed corn, soybean seed, and fertilizer. Not exactly the easiest things to move around. I am borrowing (older) tables from church to put stuff on.

Remember this little lady? We named her Kween and there were a lot of other great suggestions. We sold her two weeks ago at our county's spring sale. She was 40 days old but her birthday fell just right that she can be shown at our county fair. Another day younger and she would have missed the cutoff. Two reasons why we sold her. 1. We had two heifers calve and they both had bulls which we do not raise. 2. We did not have the money to buy her a buddy since we do not like to raise them without atleast one buddy. They seem to grow better if they have a friend. So obviously we needed the money could be reason three but who doesn't need the money right now?

There were a few other calves her age that were selling as well. Two that sold before her brought 850-900 dollars. Which is not bad considering these calves are just over a month old, but we were hoping for atleast 1500 based on the pedigree and the fact that she is red helps. Holy cow, when the dust settled a guy from our county took her home for 2100. I was shocked! Just think what she would have brought if the milk price wasn't so crappy. Thanks to Kween we cash flowed the month of April. We found out later, the guy Kurt works for bid her up and was going to try and buy her. Kurt's cousin was also going to bid on her but he I don't think he had a chance.

I am trying to come up with a recipe for tomorrow's recipe swap but I'm drawing a blank. I promise I will try and blog more. My camera needs a new battery and I blame it on that and being lazy and tired.
